Apple MacBook Air 13.6″ Early 2024 Overview

The Midnight Apple 13″ MacBook Air now features the Apple M3 chip, which has many improvements over its predecessor, the M2. The Apple M3 8-Core Chip provides the power and performance efficiency needed to handle all your creative workflows. Now built on 3nm process technology, the M3 8-Core Chip is combined with a 8-Core GPU. The next-gen GPU features Dynamic Caching, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and mesh shading, all of which significantly increase performance for the most demanding creative apps and games. The M3 Chip also has a 16-Core Neural Engine that can leverage the power of AI for both macOS and a growing number of supported apps. It also has 8GB of unified RAM and a 256GB SSD.

The MacBook Air features the 13.6″ Liquid Retina Display, which has a 2560 x 1664 screen resolution for 224 pixels per inch (ppi). The large display has thin bezels, giving you more screen real estate. The display also features 500 nits of brightness. Add P3 wide color gamut and the display can support one billion colors for vibrant photos and movies. With True Tone technology, the white balance automatically adjusts to match the color temperature of the light around you for a more natural viewing experience. The MacBook Air is also thin and light, weighing just 2.7 pounds and measuring just 0.44″ thin. Complete with a silent, fanless design and up to 18 hours of battery life, the MacBook Air is still portable, but now a lot more powerful.

Connect to the internet via Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and use compatible wireless peripherals and accessories with Bluetooth 5.3. The two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide USB4 support and can even connect to an external 6K display at 60 Hz. Need another screen? Close the lid and the MacBook Air can output to a second external 5K display at 60 Hz. Apple also included a three-mic array with Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum modes for enhanced clarity in audio and video calls. There is also a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, which has a larger image sensor and more efficient pixels that deliver twice the resolution and low-light performance of the 720p FaceTime HD camera. Combined with the advanced image signal processor on the M3 means you’ll look great on video calls.

Keep your MacBook Air secure with Secure Enclave in M3 as well as Touch ID. The backlit Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience, and the Force Touch trackpad allows for precise cursor control, pressure-sensing capabilities, and Multi-Touch gestures. MagSafe returns to the MacBook Air. The dedicated charging port uses magnets for easy plugging and unplugging.

This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility.

Apple M3 8-Core Chip

Now packed with 25 billion transistors, five billion more than M2, the Apple M3 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Now built with 3nm process technology, the Apple M3 delivers the performance you need without sacrificing power efficiency. The 8-Core CPU features four performance cores and four efficiency cores, which is up to 35 percent faster than M1 for CPU performance. The M3 also supports up to 24GB of unified memory.

With a 8-Core GPU, the M3 features Dynamic Caching, which allocates the use of local memory in hardware in real time. Dynamic Caching only uses the exact amount of memory needed for each task, which dramatically increases the average utilization of the GPU, resulting in significant performance increases for the most demanding pro apps and games. Hardware-accelerated ray tracing has arrived for the MacBook Air. Ray tracing models the properties of light as it interacts with a scene, allowing apps to create extremely realistic and physically accurate images. Additionally, the improved GPU brings hardware-accelerated mesh shading to the MacBook Air, delivering greater capability and efficiency to geometry processing, and enabling more visually complex scenes in games and graphics-intensive apps.

13.6″ Liquid Retina Display

The MacBook Air features the 13.6″ Liquid Retina Display, with support for one billion colors. The 2560 x 1664 resolution provides crisp text. The 500 nits of brightness and wide P3 color gamut ensure that photos and movies are brilliant and vivid, complete with rich contrast and sharp detail.

Compact Design

The MacBook Air lives up to its name, weighing in at just 2.7 pounds and measuring just 0.44″ thin. The durable enclosure features 100 percent recycled aluminum. The MacBook Air also features a silent, fanless design.

Full HD 1080p FaceTime Camera

With a Full HD 1080p FaceTime camera, the MacBook Air allows you to look your best during video calls. The three-mic array features Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum modes to capture clean audio, allowing your voice to come through loud and clear.

MagSafe

The MacBook Air features the quick-release MagSafe power connector. MagSafe can easily attach and detach with magnets, preventing any unintentional disconnects.

True Tone Technology

Magic Keyboard

Thunderbolt 3 with USB4 Support

Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. The connector also supports USB4, allowing you to connect to more peripherals, including the Apple Pro Display XDR in full 6K resolution.
